The Maternal Child Health Coalition of Northern Nevada is a group of agencies and individuals that represent all segments of the public and private health care system.  Members include state and local governmental agencies, health and social care providers, educators, non-profits and volunteers.  Activities of the Coalition include:

  • Supporting access to care
  • Promoting collaborative projects and community education
  • Facilitating access to data
  • Supporting specific legislative measures related to the Coalition’s priorities
The MCH Coalition was originally established in the 1990s and registered as a non-profit organization in 1999. It was re-established in January 2006 to work on improving the health of women of reproductive age, infants and children in Northern Nevada. Projects have included:
  • Development of teen pregnancy prevention and Pregnant and Parenting Teen materials
  • Teen forums pertaining to pregnancy and male involvement/fatherhood.
  • Sponsored educational booths at March of Dimes fundraising run, CAN Prevent conferences, Women’s Health Expo and other educational events.
  • Support of initiatives such as Fetal Infant Mortality Review and Pregnancy Risk Assessment Management System for data collection, analysis and assessment of current challenges
  • Partnered with “The Hookup”
  • Educational presentations at MCH meetings
  • Promotion of “Txt for Baby,” an texting service to encourage good health habits for pregnant and parenting women
